Feeling a little better about things. Still some aches and pains in the lower legs. Lower mileage for the week has helped me snap out of the funk that I've been in.

Sasha asked that I do a 100 meter time trial on a track. Stopped at the Viewmont High track about 4 miles into my run. Did 2 100 meter all out sprints. Completed the first in 15.5 sec. and the second in 15.75. Not used to the explosive speed so I may be able to improve on that with a little practice.

This gives us some food for thought. McMillan Calculator says with your speed you should be able to run a 5 K in 18:15. However, note that your 19:20 5 K nearly perfectly carries to the half marathon and the marathon.

Given the circumstances, you probably could improve your 100 m time by at least a second given a bit of practice to activate the muscles, and also some competition. So that means you sprint speed determined 5 K potential is somewhere around 17:00-17:30.

Also note the slowdown on the second repetition. This could have been a fluke though, but if this is a pattern, this perhaps could be connected to the cause of you not being able to run 18:15 5 K.

The next thing to measure is if you can run 200 in 31 seconds.
